You all have created a glorious history yesterday! Heartiest Congratulations once again to all of you for making 22nd January Strike a stupendous success braving all the threats, intimidations, pressures and coercive tactics of the management. Reports are pouring in from all centres about the unprecedented participation of the employees and officers in the demonstrations and mass rallies. The enthusiasm of our members in the strike action indicated their determination to fight, preparedness to face attacks, conviction and consciousness in the cause and total faith in the trade unions and leadership. Your total involvement made the strike an unprecedented success. UFCBU has been ridiculed by the management as a ‘new avatar’. The avatar has created this historic unity in fighting back unilateralism and vindictiveness.
Fallacy of personal fight between CMD and Unions ! In every meeting, the baseless propaganda is being carried out that it is a personal fight between CMD of the Bank and the Unions. The management even issued an open Circular No. 134 to the Centralites to ‘ BOYCOTT AND DEFY ’ the strike call of UFCBU. The employees and officers did defy and rightly so the illegal and unlawful appeal of the management by whole hearted and massive participation in the strike of 22nd Jan 2007. They have stood by the call of the trade unions. Trade unions have nothing personal against anyone in the management. Comrades, it is a fight between the management and the staff of the bank. It is a fight to resolve our genuine and justified grievances.
Management launches attack: We understand that the management has given instructions to issue memos and charge-sheets to initiate disciplinary action against nearly 7,000 employees and officers throughout the country. Reportedly even punishments have already been dictated. The mass scale action has been ordered for your participation in the agitation. It is an attack on the fundamental rights of the employees and officers to agitate for resolution of the grievances and participate in the agitational programmes including strikes announced by trade unions. This unheard of action in the whole banking industry exposes the management. This action shows that the management does not respect the sanctity for the law of the country as also the fundamental rights of the employees and officers. However as long as we are citizens of a democratic country, no one can close the unions nor can stop you, by any means, to agitate.
What a wrong priority: On one side the management is preaching for the growth and development of the bank and on the other side, unleashes highly vindictive and provocative action of preparing charge sheets of keyholders. This action alone will involve more than 28,000 employees in the disciplinary action process. The charge-sheeted staff, Presenting Staff, POs, DRs, EOs, DAs and witnesses etc. Where is the goal post for 31-3-2007 ? Is not it a goal post to finish the unions and terrorise the staff members? Now the business targets seems to be in achieving number of charge sheets, memos, transfers, suspensions and other attacks!
UFCBU will deal with these attacks: The management actions are part of management’s agitational actions against UFCBU and do not fall under the purview of the disciplinary actions under Conduct Regulations or bipartite settlements. Individual employees and officers are not required to respond or reply to any of these provocative communications of the management. There is no personal misconduct – major or minor – on the part of the staff. The employees and officers have only implemented the call of the UFCBU for which due notice has already been given to the management. Management was aware that there will be strike and the members would participate in the strike. It was for the management to make arrangements for taking charge from the respective keyholders. If the management has failed in arranging for taking the charge, it is not the fault of the staff and hence the management’s action is legally untenable, unwarranted and vindictive. We strongly condemn this brutal use of muscle-power by the management.
The strategy of the management is to browbeat and intimidate the staff and to provoke the unions so as to divert our attention. Let us concentrate on our objective to have the redressal of our grievances. Let us proceed to make the agitational programme a resounding success.
Our unity is our strength. Our objective is to get our issues resolved. We are on right path and have justice and fair play in our favour. Do not succumb to the management’s provocations. Concentrate on our agitation. Maintain your commitment, conviction and confidence and participate in the Action Programme whole heartedly.

Echoing this immortal appeal, we call upon all of you, dear comrades : GIVE UFCBU YOUR UNITY AND CO-OPERATION, YOUR MILITANCY AND SUPPORT AND WE SHALL GET FREEDOM FROM UNILATERALISM AND ATTACKS OF THE MANAGEMENT.
